Royal Caribbean's Prohibited Items Policy

Royal Caribbean has strict policies to ensure safety. Prohibited items will be confiscated, and some (illegal drugs, flammable liquids) will not be returned.
 

Key Prohibited Items Include:

  • Weapons & Ammunition: Firearms, realistic replicas, sharp objects (knives/scissors with blades longer than 4 inches).
  • Exceptions: Safety razors. Diving knives and Alaskan ulu knives permitted if stored appropriately.
  • Illegal Drugs & Substances: All illegal drugs, controlled substances (including marijuana, even if legal on land), CBD oil, and CBD products.
  • Heat-Generating Items: Candles, incense, coffee makers, clothes irons, travel steamers, hot plates, electric blankets, heating pads, hookahs, water pipes.
  • Exceptions: Curling irons and hair straighteners. Matches and normal lighters are allowed (no "torch" or novelty lighters).
  • Flammable Liquids & Explosives: Lighter fluid, fireworks, blasting caps, gunpowder, bomb-making components, realistic replicas of explosives.
  • Martial Arts, Self-Defense, & Sports Gear: Handcuffs, pepper spray, stun guns, night sticks, nunchakus, throwing stars, brass knuckles, bows and arrows.
  • Electrical Extension Cords & Multi-Plug Outlets/Power Strips: Due to circuit overload and fire hazards.
  • Exception: Consumer-type power conversion devices that are USB charger multi-plug blocks are allowed if stamped with US/Europe recognized Conformance Marking. Long USB cords are also a recommended alternative.
  • Dangerous Chemicals: Bleach, chlorine, spray paint, tear gas, spillable batteries (wheelchair batteries allowed). Gas cylinders generally banned (empty dive tanks and medical oxygen bottles excepted).
  • Perishable Food & Meat Products: Generally not allowed onboard.
  • Alcoholic Beverages: Strict controls. Each stateroom may bring up to two 750 ml bottles of wine or champagne on boarding day. Additional alcohol purchased onboard or in port will be stored and returned on the last day. Confiscated alcohol on embarkation day will not be returned.
  • Other Banned Items: Hoverboards, HAM radios, baby monitors, blenders, immersion blenders, satellite dishes, routers, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices, electric scooters (unless pre-approved).
  • Sporting Goods: Allowed if stored in the stateroom and not used in public areas (e.g., baseball bats, golf clubs, surfboards, fishing rods).


Special Considerations: CPAP Machines & Extension Cords

  • Royal Caribbean prohibits personal electrical extension cords, but provides extension cords for medical equipment like CPAP machines.
  • Highly recommended: Submit a request for an extension cord in advance through Royal Caribbean's Special Needs department. Requests can also be made onboard at Guest Services or through the stateroom attendant.
  • Provided cords typically accommodate one AC plug and are at least 20 feet long.


Onboard Amenities: Distilled Water Availability

  • All drinking water on Royal Caribbean ships is safe for consumption, as it is distilled from seawater or loaded from approved sources.
  • Distilled water suitable for CPAP use will likely be provided upon request.
  • It is advisable for CPAP users to make a comprehensive request to the Special Needs department in advance for both the extension cord and distilled water.


Recommended Items for a Comfortable Cruise

  • Long USB Cords: For charging devices, as outlets may be limited.
  • Safety-Certified USB Charging Blocks: Multi-plug USB blocks are permitted if they meet safety standards.
  • Small First-Aid Kit: For minor ailments.
  • Sunscreen & Hat: Essential for sun protection.
  • Comfortable Walking Shoes: Crucial for exploring the ship and port.
  • Reusable Water Bottle: To refill with the ship's drinking water.
  • Light Jacket/Sweater: For air-conditioned indoor areas on the ship.
